Beautification Board recognizes best yards

The Trussville Beautification Board held its annual contest this May. There were 20 entries, and all of the submitted yards were impressive, according to the board.

The winners received their awards at Freedom Fest on July 4.Three lifetime achievement awards were also be presented to Vickie and Mack Franks, John and Sally Payne and Charles Nicholas.

The 2016 winners are:

► Best Landscape Design:

First place: Vickie and Mack Franks on Lake Vista Drive

Second place: Jim and Jane Bailey on Legacy Lane

► Best Turf:

First place: John and Sally Payne on Memory Lane

Second place: Lloyd Martin on Brentwood Avenue

► Best Use of Color:

First place: Wendy Davis on Wimberly Drive

Second place: Charles Nicholas on Calumet Circle

► Best Homeowner Maintained:

First place: Bill and Cindy Nielson on Powell Place

Second place: Don and Jan Evans on Nichols Way

► Best Business:

Carroll Pharmacy on North Chalkville Road

The board thanked this year’s judges, including Ken and Alicia Hall and Kathy Connelly. All three judges are master gardeners and were thorough in their judging, according to a release.

Board members Charlene Temples, Nora O’Connor and Nina Orr attended the judging, and Cindy Jones of the Trussville Fire Department was the board’s driver for the day. The board also thanked Trussville Mayor Gene Melton for his support.
