The cast and crew at ACTA Theatre are offering audience members one last trip to the beach with their fall production, “Madagascar — A Musical Adventure.” The show follows four animal friends on their journey from the Central Park Zoo to the island of Madagascar, where they meet colorful characters and face new perils.

“But the whole thing comes down to friendship,” Director Suellen Wilkins said. “[It’s] friendship and people taking care of other people and making the world a better place.”

While audience members may be familiar with the characters and plot because of the 2005 animated film, Wilkins is sure they will enjoy the show’s musical score.

“It’s very sing-able, and you can move to it… So it’s going to be a fun night,”she said.

Wilkins added that the show has a “wonderful cast,” which includes roughly 30 members ranging from preschool members to adults.

“I think I got the best of everything,” she said.

Wilkins hopes the audience’s enjoyment will last long after the curtain falls.

“If you’ve got a good musical, people go out humming the songs,” she said. “And that’s what I hope they do, is go out singing the songs and being happy.”

“Madagascar — A Musical Adventure” will run Sept. 29 and 30 and Oct. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m., with matinees on Oct. 1 and 8 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for students and children. To purchase, call ACTA Theatre at 655-3902 or go online at actatheater.com.
