This Independence Day, local families can celebrate the nation’s freedom with a bang.

First Baptist Church of Trussville is organizing the ninth annual Trussville Freedom Celebration with the help of local sponsors. The evening will include food, music and fun for the whole family, ending with a flare-filled finale.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m., when the food vendors open.

“We’ll have a mix of food trucks and local restaurants,” said Jamie Chappell, executive assistant at FBC. Including everything from Swamp Monster BBQ and Cantina on Wheels to Dreamcakes and the Three-Eared Rabbit, over a dozen food vendors will be on-hand to serve those in attendance.

The evening’s festivities will kick off at 6 p.m., when Trussville Beautification Board President Nina Orr will present this years’ Beautification Awards. Later, attendees will have the chance to hear Birmingham-based band Act of Congress. “They were our guest last year and did a great job,” Chappell said.

In addition to other local artists, Act of Congress will be joined by the First Baptist Church Contemporary Worship group and local high school quartet, Harmonia.

The celebration will also feature a free children’s area, as well as giveaways and door prizes. Attendees are asked to stop at the gate and fill out a door prize slip on their way in.

This year, major sponsors include the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce, The Chocolate Biscuit and American Promo. “We’re open for sponsorships if people would like to help with this event,” Chappell said, adding there are advertising levels available.

The grand finale of the evening will come in the form of a fireworks show beginning at 9 p.m. “It’s something that the folks really enjoy,” Chappell said, adding that the event’s attendance is usually highest once the fireworks start. “Folks bring their blankets and chairs and come and sit out on the mall and just enjoy a good time with friends and family.”

The Trussville Freedom Celebration is a free event that takes place rain or shine. For more information, visit trussvillefreedomcelebration.com.
