Trussville residents will soon have a new dining spot to warm up with hot soup and freshly baked bread. Great Harvest Bread Company is set to open downtown next to Dollar General, at 218 Main St., in early spring.

According to its website, the Montana-based company is known for making everything from scratch daily, including the Montana whole wheat berries that are hand-milled on-site.

Popular items at Great Harvest Bread Company include the honey whole wheat bread and other loaves such as cranberry pear walnut, five seed Dakota and rustic three cheese sourdough.

Owners David and Jennifer Snyder, who came to Trussville from Michigan nine years ago, bought into Great Harvest Bread Company because of both the fresh ingredients and tasty foods that make up the menu.

“Great Harvest offers fresh ingredients with no preservatives, no high fructose corn syrup,” Jennifer Snyder said. “It’s real food.”

Now that the Snyders have established themselves as permanent residents and business owners in the Trussville community, they have already used Great Harvest as a platform to connect with their customer base and spread the real reason for their new business adventure: to promote good health.

“We want to build the community up and be a little more health conscious,” David Snyder said. “That’s what drew us to Great Harvest, more than anything else, was health.”

Last year, the Snyders provided baked goods to both the Hewitt High School band and the Trussville Dog Park.

“Great Harvest is something that we can get behind and believe in,” Jennifer Snyder said.

The Snyders are prepared to promote good health to the community and are ready to embrace Trussville’s economic growth.

“There was a prime location available next to the Keller building, but we knew development in the entertainment district would begin in a couple of years,” David Snyder said.

The Snyders continued searching for the right location, but one thing was for certain: it was going to be in Trussville.

“Great Harvest took us to Homewood, Vestavia and said that this is where you want to be,” David Snyder said. “But in the long run, we believed in Trussville and the growth potential it was going through. We are really excited.”

Great Harvest is about embracing surrounding communities, and that is exactly what the Snyders are doing. David Snyder wants to stay local within their menu options.

“We met up with Higher Ground, out of Vestavia, and are really sold on their duty-free, organic coffee,” David Snyder said. “We want to stay as local as we can.”

David Snyder also shared plans to use brew from Trussville’s own Slag Heap Brewing Company as an ingredient in their bacon cheddar beer bread.

In addition to the loaves, other menu items will include scones, cinnamon rolls, Savannah bars, multigrain and multiseed bars, cookies, muffins, tea cakes, specialty breads, sandwiches, salads and soups.

The Snyders will be building their team of 20-plus employees to staff the store. More information will be released prior to its grand opening this spring. If you’re interested in joining their team, stay connected via their Facebook page, @BirminghamGHB.
