Trussville City Schools- Women of Homewood

Trussville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Pattie Neill has much to be excited about. With three new elementary schools slated to open this fall, accreditation scores earned among the highest the evaluation team had seen this year, the high school’s baseball team garnering its first 7A state championship and TCS receiving the Attorney General’s Safe Schools Award, there are lots of smiling faces among students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

The Board of Education received District accreditation last fall from the AdvancED Accreditation Team, which evaluates school systems nationwide.  Neill said TCS received an excellent report on their “Powerful Practices” including accolades related to how each student is well known by at least one adult advocate, how school leaders monitor student learning and safety, and how challenging, equitable educational programs and facilities are available for all students.

The passage of the property tax referendum in 2014 enabled the system to move forward with renovating the historic high school in the Cahaba project area, which was built in 1936, and will be called Cahaba Elementary.  It also provided the funding to build Magnolia Elementary — both of which are under the direction of Michael Brady, Inc. architecture firm. Dr. Neill and MBI wanted to highlight the two principals of the new elementary schools serving grades K-5 in this Women of Trussville edition. Autumm Jeter will be principal of Magnolia Elementary School and Joy Tyner will be principal of Cahaba Elementary School. The system is also combining the existing Paine Primary and Intermediate schools into one Paine Elementary campus and all portable buildings will be removed.

Trussville City Schools became an independent system in 2005, Neill said, who has been superintendent for four years and recently signed a new four-year contract. “We have an outstanding administrative team with the female principals, supervisors and coordinators pictured above. We have highly qualified teachers who enable our students to excel and develop their innate talents. We have new career and technical education programs at the high school including fire science and pharmaceutical technician. This year they had their first graduating class of certified firefighters. A variety of athletic and extracurricular activities keep students connected and excited about school.” Dr. Neill said, “The Board of Education has approved an outstanding Strategic Plan that establishes programs and procedures to move the students and the system onward and upward to the next level of excellence.”
