For the sixth consecutive year, Dr. Pattie Neill, superintendent of Trussville City Schools, will be the speaker at the January Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon, scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 18, at 11:30 a.m. at the Trussville Civic Center. The luncheon is sponsored by the Trussville City Schools Foundation.

“Trussville is a wonderful community. I feel blessed to lead the school system and to have the support of our community,” Neill said. “By updating the Trussville community leaders, it provides me a chance to promote the quality of our faculty, staff, students and parents but also an opportunity to thank the community for their tremendous support of our schools.”

Last January, Neill provided an update on school system dividing its elementary school into three schools — Payne, Cahaba and Magnolia — in 2016-17. She plans to revisit the subject this month, as well as highlights from each of the city’s schools. Neill also said she will discuss upcoming building projects across the school system, including additions to Cahaba Elementary and Hewitt-Trussville Middle School. Another project in the works is improvements to the Hewitt-Trussville High School baseball, softball and soccer facilities.

Neill was named superintendent in 2012, coming to Trussville from Samford University, where she was an assistant professor in the Graduate Studies Program. A former superintendent for the Cumberland County School District in Crossville, Tennessee, Neill spent 30 years teaching and working as an administrator in the Tennessee Public School System. She has also served as an educational consultant for school systems across Alabama.

Each month, the chamber luncheon begins with a 30-minute network development time during which members and guests can network and exchange business cards with the estimated 80-100 individuals expected to attend.

Cost for the luncheon is $17 with a 4 percent processing fee for credit card purchases. Online registration is closed at midnight on Monday, Jan. 15, but the chamber office will accept registration by phone until noon Tuesday, Jan. 16. All non-members must pay in advance.
