Taco Mama slated to open newest location in Trussville

When Taco Mama opens its Trussville store this autumn, that will mark its 14th location around the Southeast.

Owner Will Haver established the first of his fast-casual restaurants in 2011, and its focus on fresh, well-prepared ingredients and friendly, fast service made the place a success.

“Over the past eight years, we’ve seen a lot of growth,” Haver said. “We don’t think of ourselves as a chain, even though I guess we are. By no means did I think we’d have the level of success that we’ve had. The reception we’ve had has been remarkable.”

Based on the laid-back taquerias Haver experienced in his travels around the country as a younger man, Taco Mama offers the kind of funky — and sometimes even kitschy — atmosphere that one would find in a hole-in-the-wall local restaurant.

The new Trussville location will be the sixth in the metro Birmingham area.

“We’d been looking at Trussville really hard,” Haver said. “We’ve had so many people from Trussville reaching out to us to bring a Taco Mama there. Obviously, growing up in Birmingham, I’d been to Trussville before, but I didn’t really know what a great community it was until we really got into the community.”

The space for the new restaurant was handed over in mid-June, Haver said. The location will be along Gadsden Highway in the same shopping area as Metro Diner and Chicken Salad Chick.

“It’s always about location for us, and we have a great deal of respect for what those two businesses have done,” Haver said. “We thought we would be a natural fit.”

Taco Mama offers a little something for everyone, Haver said, whether that’s from the food menu or even one of their signature margaritas.

“One thing I love about Taco Mama is how much it appeals to people across age groups and across dietary needs,” he said. “I think you can attribute that to the diversity of our menu. It’s a place where anyone can find something they’ll love.”

And customers can expect the same level of service and welcome as at every other Taco Mama location.

“We believe in being kind, friendly, and we go above and beyond for our customers,” Haver said. “That’s just what we do.”

The new Trussville location is not the only upcoming expansion for the restaurant chain. Once the ongoing construction of Stadium Trace Village in Hoover is finished, a new Taco Mama location there is set to open soon after the Trussville shop.
