Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center announced in December that it will open a Trussville clinic Jan. 2.

Andrews Sports Medicine – Trussville will occupy more than 3,700 square feet of space in the recently opened St. Vincent’s outpatient facility at 7201 Happy Hollow Road, which is off Deerfoot Parkway and convenient to Interstate 59.

“We are excited to be opening a Trussville clinic to better serve northeast Jefferson, St. Clair, Blount and Etowah counties and surrounding communities,” Dr. Samuel R. Goldstein, an orthopaedic surgeon and managing partner at Andrew Sports Medicine, said in a press release.

This will be the sixth Andrews Sports Medicine location in Central Alabama. There also are clinics in Birmingham, Pelham, Hoover, Gardendale and Winfield.

Ron Rickel, the director or marketing and public relations at Andrews Sports Medicine, cited the area’s explosive growth as one reason behind the decision to open a Trussville clinic.

Rickel said Andrews Sports Medicine realized many patients were from Trussville, Clay, Pinson and beyond. The absence of a clinic in their neck of the woods meant extended travel time to Birmingham for treatment.

Now, proximity won’t be an issue.

“We really felt like it made perfect sense,” Rickel said.

Andrews Sports Medicine’s relationship with local high schools also made the new location a smart decision. The Trussville clinic will be staffed by Drs. Cherie B. Miner and Chris Carter, who have served as the team physicians for local schools. Miner is affiliated with Hewitt-Trussville Middle and High schools, along with four other programs, and Carter is affiliated with Clay-Chalkville High School.

“While this clinic is going to be a welcome addition to Trussville and surrounding communities, Andrews Sports Medicine – Trussville is going to be a game-changer for the area’s student-athletes and their families,” Goldstein said in the release.

Both Miner and Carter are non-surgical orthopaedic and sports medicine physicians who treat sports-related and non-sports-related injuries, along with osteoarthritis. They are equipped to handle sprains, strains, fractures and concussions, among other injuries.

Miner’s background is in pediatrics, while Carter’s is in primary care sports medicine. Both doctors have completed fellowships at the American Sports Medicine Institute.

Rickel said the Trussville clinic, which will be open Monday through Friday, will treat athletes and non-athletes of all ages. The location is accepting new patients, and Rickel said same-day and next-day appointments should be available once the clinic opens.
