Trussville will soon be home to a new ALDI store. While an exact opening date wasn’t available at Cahaba Sun’s press time, shoppers can look forward to the location coming in 2019 to Homestead Village.

The new stores, which are similar to 365 by Whole Foods, feature open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally friendly building materials. A typical store has a layout of 12,000 square feet of retail space with only four or five aisles.

ALDI Mount Juliet Division Vice President Troy Marshall said when it comes to choosing store locations, they look at many factors.

“We want the best sites that are closest to our shoppers and can support a high daily traffic volume,” he said. “As the demand for ALDI grows, so do our real estate options. Bottom line, we want to be conveniently located for our shoppers.”

ALDI’s goal is to make the shopping experience smart, fast and easy. Marshall said the new store layout provides an improved in-store experience and features additional refrigeration space to accommodate more fresh, healthy and convenient products, which includes increased options.

“Compared to last year, 20 percent of the ALDI product selection is new,” he said. “The ALDI product expansion is the next phase of the company’s aggressive, national growth and remodel plan.”

As part of the product expansion, ALDI is increasing its fresh food selection by 40 percent, which will include many organic, convenient and easy-to-prepare options.

ALDI sells common grocery and household items, primarily under its exclusive brands. The new store will still feature the affordable prices that ALDI shoppers are used to, including popular lines liveGfree and PurAqua Belle Vie. Marshall said they listen to their shoppers, and if they love something, the store may carry it every day.

“Shoppers are savvier about private labels now,” Marshall said. “We’ve helped people understand that brand name does not define quality. A recent Nielsen report said many shoppers now see private-label brands as being equivalent to or substitutable for multinational brands.”

Shopping at ALDI is intended to be simple and streamlined.

To keep customer costs low, ALDI shoppers put in a quarter to get a shopping cart and get it back when they return it. They also need to bring their own reusable bags for their groceries, or they can purchase bags at the store for a small fee.

ALDI operates more than 1,800 U.S. stores in 35 states. Learn more at aldi.us.
