Here's a look back at the last week of Hewitt-Trussville, Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley high school athletics.
BASKETBALL
Last Monday, the Pinson Valley boys basketball team pulled out a home win over Gadsden City, 63-56. Terry Coner had a huge night in the victory over the Class 7A foe, as he went for 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists. Isaiah Sims had 10 points, 7 rebounds and took three charges as well.
Hewitt-Trussville hosted Huntsville for senior night Tuesday. The Lady Huskies posted a 71-46 win over the visiting Panthers, while the boys suffered a 54-42 loss. In the boys game, Ray Rolley led the Huskies with 13 points, with Tyler Blake adding 9 points.
Clay-Chalkville was also in action Tuesday, hosting and sweeping Oneonta. The Lady Cougars picked up a 55-46 win behind 20 points from Kameron Sanders. Kamoriah Gaines added 13 points and Brooklyn Phillips scored 12 as well. The boys team earned a 67-53 win in the nightcap.
Pinson Valley avenged its lone loss of the year to this point, beating Oxford 57-41 on Thursday. Caleb White led the charge with 23 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. BJ Diakite was a big help on the glass, pulling down 14 rebounds to go along with 8 points. Coner and Cameron White each finished with 8 points.
Clay-Chalkville fell in a pair of tight contests Friday evening against Chelsea. The Lady Cougars suffered a 35-31 defeat. Sanders and Gaines led the way once again, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Clay boys took a 61-54 loss.
Hewitt-Trussville split with Park Crossing on Friday. The Lady Huskies posted a 47-41 win. Jordan Hunter scored 17 points and pulled down 6 rebounds, while Chrischandria James went for 8 points and 8 boards. Audre Benson finished with 6 points and 7 rebounds.
The boys were dealt a 59-55 loss. Rolley scored 23 points to pace the Huskies and Reid Stodghill added 13 points.
On Saturday, the Hewitt-Trussville boys lost to Springville 62-45, as the Tigers pulled away in the final quarter. Cason Kersh led Springville with 13 points in the contest. Pinson Valley fell as well, getting beat by Newton, one of the best teams in Georgia, 69-41. Caleb White led the Indians with 15 points, 4 assists and 2 steals. Coner had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals as well. Raymon McCants finished with 9 points.
WRESTLING
The Hewitt-Trussville wrestling team swept a tri-match last Tuesday, beating Brookwood 60-21 and knocking off Tuscaloosa County 70-6.
Over the weekend, Hewitt-Trussville won the Swede Umbach Invitational in Auburn. Logan Reaves, Hunter Jones and Chris Hawkins all took home first-place honors in their weight classes.
INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
The Hewitt-Trussville track and field team competed in the Holiday Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex last Saturday.
Maci Mills won the 800-meter run in 2:20 and Tanveer Raza won the shot put with a throw of 56 feet, 8.5 inches, to headline the Huskies’ showing.
Mills was second in the 1,600, Madisyn Hawkins placed second in the shot put and the girls 4x400 relay team was second. Tyrone Reese finished third in the 60-meter hurdles and Avery Cahoon was third in the 1,600.
