Here's a look back at the last week of Hewitt-Trussville, Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley high school athletics.
FOOTBALL
The Clay-Chalkville football team is headed to the state championship game for the first time since 2015 after the Cougars defeated Mountain Brook 24-18 in the Class 6A semifinals last Friday. Click here for the recap of the game.
This Friday, the Cougars take on Hueytown for the state title at 7 p.m. at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium.
BASKETBALL
Last Monday, the Hewitt-Trussville girls basketball team took to the road and beat Wenonah 62-34. Three players tallied double figure points for the Lady Huskies, led by Audre Benson, who scored 15 points. Jordan Hunter went for 14 points and 6 assists, while D’yona Jones added 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. April Hooks also scored 8 points.
Clay-Chalkville’s boys played in the Spartan Turkey Jam at Mountain Brook and began the tournament with a 67-52 loss to Charles Henderson on Monday.
Pinson Valley’s boys played in the Heritage Classic at Fairfield during the week as well. The Indians survived a strong test from Paul Bryant on Monday, winning 55-52 in overtime. Caleb White led the way with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals for the team, while Terry Coner went for 15 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 assists. Isaiah Sims registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
Pinson Valley suffered its first loss of the year on Tuesday evening, falling to Oxford 54-43. White went for 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Coner added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Clay-Chalkville finished up play in the Spartan Turkey Jam with a 60-33 loss to Tuscaloosa County on Tuesday and a 60-48 defeat to Oak Mountain on Wednesday.
WRESTLING
Last Tuesday, the Hewitt-Trussville wrestling team placed fifth in the Boo Harmon Memorial Duals at Pell City. The Huskies won their fifth-place match over Leeds 48-36. The Huskies lost to Chelsea (45-31), St. Clair County (42-36) and Shelby County (57-24) before beating Chelsea’s B team 54-30.
Hewitt hosted the Patrick Aaron Memorial Duals the following day and won the team title, defeating Arab 46-18 in the final. Leading up to the championship, the Huskies notched wins over Auburn (74-6), Daphne (58-18), Oak Mountain (57-18) and Thompson (67-6).
