Here's a look back at the last week of Hewitt-Trussville, Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley high school athletics.
BASEBALL
Last Tuesday, the Pinson Valley baseball team fell to Mortimer Jordan 9-0 to begin a Class 6A, Area 12 series.
Hewitt-Trussville notched a 6-1 win over Gadsden City to begin a Class 7A, Area 6 series on Tuesday night. Riley Quick earned the win on the mound, striking out 11 in 5 2/3 innings. Baker Green got the save, going the final 1 1/3 innings, striking out four. Trey Burrell ripped two doubles, drove in a run and scored four times. Jackson Holland finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Ethan Duhon knocked in a run as well.
Clay-Chalkville fell to Gardendale 10-1 and 5-4 in Class 6A, Area 12 action on Tuesday. In the close loss, Kobe Lewis had two doubles and three RBIs for the Cougars.
Pinson Valley fell to Mortimer Jordan 12-5 and 12-0 in an area doubleheader on Wednesday. Devin Kelly went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the 12-5 defeat.
Clay-Chalkville fell to Gardendale once again on Thursday, falling 16-3 in an area game. Ashton Frye was the offensive standout for the Cougars, as he went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Hewitt-Trussville improved to 2-0 in area play with a 5-1 win over Gadsden City on Thursday. Skylar Jones pitched the complete game, allowing just four hits and striking out 11. Kurt Kizer finished with two hits, including a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
SOFTBALL
Last Monday, the Pinson Valley softball team fell to Springville 16-0. Pinson Valley fell to Gardendale 13-1 on Tuesday.
Hewitt-Trussville suffered just its second loss of the season in an 8-6 defeat against Class 7A, Area 6 rival Spain Park on Wednesday. Crystal Maze led the Huskies offense with a double, home run and two RBIs. Riley Rudick hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to keep her team alive as well. Sarah Hindman pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits.
Clay-Chalkville earned a 15-5 win over Pinson Valley in Class 6A, Area 12 action on Thursday. LaDonna Scott drove in two runs for the Cougars, while Destinee Banks knocked in a run and scored three times. Camberlan Brown went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs as well. Julia Petty drove in a run and struck out nine in three perfect innings.
SOCCER
Last Tuesday, the Pinson Valley boys soccer team fell to John Carroll 5-2. On Thursday, the Indians got back on track with a 3-1 win over Mortimer Jordan. Pinson fell to Carver-Birmingham 3-1 on Saturday.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Hewitt-Trussville track and field teams competed in the Mountain Brook Invitational over the weekend. The Hewitt boys and girls each finished second in the team competition.
Individual winners for the Huskies included Kelsey Martin (200-meter dash and long jump), Lea Townsend (shot put), Julian Collins (long jump), Tanveer Raza (shot put) and Jacob Copham (discus).
