The Hewitt-Trussville High School football team will finish up the 2021 regular season in October.
The Huskies play their final four games in the first four Fridays of the month, before taking their open date the last week of the regular season, in hopes of getting a breather week ahead of a playoff appearance.
Hewitt-Trussville begins the month at Hoover on Oct. 1 in what will likely be one of its most critical games of the season. Hoover edged the Huskies 29-28 last fall in a result that ultimately decided second place in Class 7A, Region 3.
The Huskies play their final home game of the regular season Oct. 8 against Vestavia Hills, which is playing in the first season under new head coach Sean Calhoun. In the program’s final matchup against Buddy Anderson’s Vestavia program last fall, the Huskies got all they could handle and emerged with a 42-35 win. After Vestavia Hills won the first 12 meetings between the two programs, the Huskies have now come out on top in three of the last four.
On Oct. 15, the Huskies travel to Gadsden City to play the Titans. Hewitt-Trussville dispatched of Gadsden City 48-12 last fall and holds a 9-6 win in the all-time series. Gadsden City has won no more than three games in each of the last four seasons but is showing signs of improvement under third-year head coach Ali Smith.
In the final game of the regular season, Hewitt heads to Oak Mountain, which also has a first-year head coach in Tyler Crane. The two programs played six times while Cris Bell was at Oak Mountain, with nearly every contest featuring offensive explosions. Hewitt has won the last five meetings between the schools and has scored at least 50 points in each of the last four.
Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley are both likely to make playoff pushes in the month of October as well. To wrap up the regular season, Clay faces Jackson-Olin, Mortimer Jordan, Pinson Valley, Huffman and Oak Mountain.
Pinson takes on Mortimer Jordan, Clay-Chalkville, Jasper and Lee-Montgomery to finish up as well.
