The Hewitt-Trussville girls bowling team performed in the clutch to earn one of eight spots in the state tournament, as the Huskies finished as the fourth qualifier out of the North Regional this week in Trussville.
The Huskies began the tournament with a solid win over Homewood, 1,082-900. But they fell to James Clemens 1,191-1,039 in the semifinals, pushing them to the consolation bracket the following day.
In a decisive match, Hewitt-Trussville defeated Shades Valley 1,123-1,018. In the Huskies’ final match of the tournament, Hewitt fell to American Christian 1,097-967.
Southside-Gadsden was the top qualifier out of the regional, followed by American Christian and James Clemens. Hewitt will also be joined at state by Thompson, Hoover, Foley and Stanhope Elmore.
Hewitt’s Sophia Shipman had one of the top two-game series of the tournament, totaling a 339 for the sixth-best number. Shipman’s top single game was a 170. Baylee Lowery had a top game of 177 as well.
The Hewitt-Trussville boys made it to the regional tournament as well, but fell to Mortimer Jordan 1,379-1,258 in the opening round.
