Hewitt-Trussville vs. James Clemens Softball

BASEBALL
Hewitt-Trussville
The Hewitt-Trussville baseball team traveled south over the weekend, beginning play last Thursday with a 4-3 loss at Smiths Station. On Friday, the Huskies fell to Faith Academy 16-5.
The Huskies split a pair of games on Saturday. They knocked off Theodore 11-1. Kerrigan Edmonson led the offensive charge, as he slugged a grand slam and contributed six RBIs to the effort. Tyler Mauldin allowed just one hit in five innings of work on the mound. Hudson Boren, Michael Fowler and Trey Burrell each tallied two hits.
Clay-Chalkville
The Clay-Chalkville baseball team began last week with a dominant 10-0 victory over Huffman on Monday. Noah Lessley and Ashton Frye each drove in two runs to lead the offensive onslaught.
Clay-Chalkville was back in action last Tuesday, earning a 3-2 win over Moody. Lessley went the distance on the mound for the Cougars, allowing just three and two runs (one earned) and striking out eight hitters over those seven innings.
Clay-Chalkville’s winning streak came to an end on Thursday in a 6-1 loss to Hueytown.
Pinson Valley
The Pinson Valley baseball team was back in action last Thursday, suffering an 11-3 loss to Gardendale.
On Saturday, the Indians earned a 10-3 win over reigning Class 5A state champion Springville. Devin Kelly led the offense with two doubles and four RBIs in the game. Will Tarpley was solid on the mound. He went six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out eight.
SOFTBALL
Hewitt-Trussville
Last Monday, the Hewitt-Trussville softball team played James Clemens at UAB’s Mary Bowers Field and earned an 11-0 victory over the Jets. The Huskies offense was its normal potent self. Kenleigh Cahalan led the charge, posting a 3-for-4 night with a triple, home run and three RBIs. Jenna Lord also homered and knocked in three runs to support KK Hughes, who allowed one hit in four dominant innings in the circle.
On Tuesday, the Huskies traveled to Jacksonville State University, where they knocked off Pisgah 10-9. Pisgah edged ahead in the sixth inning before Riley Tyree’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth highlighted a five-run frame and put Hewitt-Trussville ahead for good. Anyce Harvey went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs, while Lord hit her second homer in as many days and also knocked in a pair of runs.
Hewitt-Trussville earned a Class 7A, Area 6 win on Thursday, blowing past Mountain Brook 19-2. Madi Mitchell hit a home run and drove in four runs. Harvey doubled twice and also knocked in four runs. Katelyn Murphy and Abigail Dorsett each knocked in two runs, while pitcher Hughes got in the lineup and finished with two RBIs as well. Sarah Hindman got the win in the circle for the Huskies. She allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) in five innings of work.
Clay-Chalkville
The Clay-Chalkville softball team came up just short in a 5-4 loss to Ramsay last Monday. Rachel Smith starred for the Cougars, pitching all six innings on the mound and going 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple, home run and two RBIs.
Clay-Chalkville fell to Pell City 15-0 on Thursday in a Class 6A, Area 12 contest.
Pinson Valley
The Pinson Valley softball team began play last week on Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Pell City. The Indians plated two runs in the first inning and never trailed in the contest. Kenzie Cagle drove in two runs for the Indians and Ka’Mya Hampton went the distance in the circle. Hampton allowed just the one run on four hits and struck out seven in seven innings.
Pinson Valley picked up a 5-3 win over Gardendale on Thursday. Kylie Hicks led the offense with a pair of hits, a home run and two RBIs in the game. Kyla Smith doubled and drove in two runs as well. Jordan Walker was stellar in relief, as she allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings in the pitching circle.
SOCCER
Both Hewitt-Trussville soccer teams fell to Vestavia Hills last week. The boys lost 7-1 and the girls team fell 3-1 on Tuesday.
The boys team picked up an 8-0 win over Gardendale on Friday.
TENNIS
The Hewitt-Trussville boys tennis team dropped its only match last week to Briarwood on Thursday, dropping a 6-3 decision. The girls team lost to Vestavia 7-2 on Thursday to drop to 4-4 on the year.
