Mountain Brook at Hewitt-Trussville girls soccer

BASEBALL
Hewitt-Trussville
The Hewitt-Trussville baseball team began play last week on Tuesday with a 5-3 loss to Southside-Gadsden.
Over the weekend, Hewitt-Trussville competed in the Perfect Game High School Showdown in Hoover. The Huskies began play with a pair of games on Thursday. They started out with a 7-1 win over IMG Academy (Fla.). Skylar Jones picked up the win on the mound, striking out six batters in six strong innings of work. Trey Burrell led the offensive charge, racking up three hits — including a triple — three RBIs and three runs scored. Gavin Ellison had a triple among his two hits and drove in a run as well. Michael Fowler doubled, while Tyler Mauldin and Hudson Boren each knocked in a run. Later Thursday, Hewitt dropped a 1-0 decision in 10 innings to Rockmart (Ga.), with the offense unable to support a dynamic pitching performance from Fowler and Jackson Holland.
Hewitt-Trussville fell to Buford (Ga.) 3-1 in the semifinals on Friday.
Hewitt-Trussville picked up a 10-6 win over Bob Jones to wrap up the Perfect Game event on Saturday. Austin King earned the win for the Huskies in relief. Boren had two hits and two RBIs, Burrell had a double and three RBIs, and Matt Miller had two hits and an RBI as well. Fowler tallied a double, Kahlin Drake had two hits, and Holland and Mauldin each scored two runs.
Pinson Valley
The Pinson Valley baseball team began last week with a 7-2 loss to Gardendale on Tuesday. Chris Calma provided the Indians’ only offense, as he doubled and drove in both runs.
Pinson Valley dropped a 2-0 decision to Moody on Friday. Hagen Gingras was solid on the mound, as he went six innings and allowed two runs on four hits.
Pinson Valley picked up a pair of wins on Saturday. The Indians knocked off Cleveland 13-3 in their first game of the day. Tommie Williams, Gingras, Will Tarpley, Devin Kelly and TJ Chastain all drove in two runs in the game. Barry White got the win on the mound, as he allowed three runs on five hits and struck out nine in five innings of work. Tarpley dominated on the mound in a 4-0 win over Southside-Gadsden. He struck out 13 and only allowed four hits in seven innings.
SOFTBALL
Hewitt-Trussville
Last Tuesday, the Hewitt-Trussville softball team knocked off Hoover 11-3. Hewitt’s Kenleigh Cahalan led the way for the Huskies offensively, as she went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in the contest. Crystal Maze also picked up three hits for the Huskies, while KK Hughes got the start in the circle and allowed two hits in four scoreless innings. For Hoover, Gracie Hillman registered a triple and two RBIs on the night.
Over the weekend, Hewitt-Trussville competed in Spain Park’s Jag Classic. On Friday, the Huskies won both of their pool games. In a 12-0 win over Boaz, Cahalan finished 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Katelyn Murphy and Madi Mitchell each had two RBIs. Sarah Hindman pitched four innings, allowing just two hits and striking out three. The Huskies also beat Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 5-1. Maze and Jenna Lord hit homers and each drove in two runs, while Hughes got the win in the circle. She allowed one run on four hits in five innings.
On Saturday, the Huskies made a run to the final of the tournament. Hewitt-Trussville earned wins over Brookwood (7-1), Dothan (4-0) and Pisgah (11-2) to get to area foe Spain Park in the final. In that final, the Huskies fell 5-3.
Lord hit a home run and Tori Hyde allowed just one unearned in five innings, as the Huskies beat Brookwood 7-1 in their first game of the day. Hughes went five scoreless innings and allowed just two hits in a 4-0 win over Dothan. The Huskies hit five homers in the win over Pisgah, with Mitchell, Riley Tyree, Maze, Lord and Katelyn Murphy all going deep.
Pinson Valley
Over the weekend, the Pinson Valley softball team played in Wetumpka’s tournament. On Friday, the Indians fell to Wetumpka 8-1.
The Indians made a run on Saturday, winning two games. Pinson Valley began the day with a 4-2 win over Southside-Gadsden. Kyla Smith homered in the game and Ka’Mya Hampton went five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits. The Indians dominated Benjamin Russell 9-0 in their second game of the day. Kylie Hicks hit a homer and drove in three runs. Hampton went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Kenzie Cagle threw four no-hit innings in the circle, striking out eight batters in the process. Pinson’s run came to an end in a 3-0 loss to Hazel Green.
SOCCER
Hewitt-Trussville’s girls soccer team outscored opponents 7-0 to earn two wins on the week. The Lady Huskies took down Mountain Brook for an area win on Tuesday, 3-0. Hewitt-Trussville finished the week with a 4-0 win over South Paulding on Friday.
The boys team did not have the same success during the week. The Huskies fell to Vestavia Hills 3-0 on Thursday before earning a tie with South Paulding on Friday. The Huskies sit at 0-1 in the area following the loss to Vestavia.
TENNIS
Both Hewitt-Trussville tennis teams lost to Spain Park on Tuesday for their only matches of the week. The girls team stayed close but ultimately lost 5-4, while the boys team lost 7-2.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Hewitt-Trussville outdoor track and field team had 18 top-three finishers in the Husky Seven Way Meet at Hewitt-Trussville High School on Thursday.
The boys team won the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays during the meet. Jacob Copham was a first-place finisher in the discus and shot put finals. Seth Shelnutt finished in first place of the javelin event. Julian Collins and Omari Kelly came in second in their respective events.
On the girls side, Kelsey Martin won the 400-meter dash final by two seconds. Lea Townsend won the shot put finals for the Lady Huskies as well. Sydney White finished in second place in the 300-meter hurdles, while MacKenzie Watkins came in second place in the javelin event.
