TRUSSVILLE — The Hewitt-Trussville High School football team made its Homecoming night one to remember, rolling to a 42-6 win over Pinson Valley on Friday. The unbeaten Huskies dominated in all three phases.
The tone was set from the start when CJ Davis returned the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. James Kelly added a 21-yard scoring run, and Will Phillips followed with a 39-yard punt return touchdown to push the lead to 21-0 early in the second quarter.
Quarterback Jack Floyd connected with Dylan Cope for a 15-yard score before halftime to lead 28-0 at the break.
“We never take a win for granted,” said Hewitt-Trussville head coach Josh Floyd. “We had some guys make some great individual plays and played a little sloppy at times, but got out of here with a win.”
Jack Floyd added a 22-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and later hit Cope for a 76-yard strike in the fourth to cap the night.
Pinson Valley (3-3) managed a late touchdown pass from Rico Freeman, but the Huskies’ defense also picked him off twice.
Floyd finished 13-of-15 for 155 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 65 yards and another score. Cope led all receivers with five catches for 104 yards and two scores.
The Huskies have won 11 straight over the Indians and have a 27-7 edge in the series.
Next week, Hewitt-Trussville hosts Thompson in a game that could decide the Class 7A, Region 3 title. Pinson Valley takes an open date.
