Hewitt-Trussville once again showed its balance and depth Friday, rolling to a 56-7 win over Gadsden City at Titan Stadium.
The Titans tied the game 7-7 in the first quarter, but the Huskies reeled off 49 unanswered points to secure their second straight win. It also marked the first touchdown allowed by the Hewitt defense in four games, dating back to last season.
Quarterback Zach Benedict ran for two early scores and passed for 186 yards before leaving the game in the first half with an injury. Jack Floyd added a pair of touchdown runs, and Dylan Cope, Tyler Wilson and CJ Davis each contributed rushing scores. Floyd also connected with Dane Askins for a touchdown through the air. Kicking duties were split, with Nathan Fritz and Banks Lloyd combining to go 8-for-8 on extra points.
Davis finished with 71 rushing yards and 116 receiving yards. Cope added 68 receiving yards to go with his rushing touchdown. The Huskies totaled 612 yards of offense — 383 on the ground and 229 through the air — while holding Gadsden City to 154.
Hewitt-Trussville (2-0) will host Vestavia Hills (2-0) next week in a matchup of top-10 Class 7A teams that is expected to be one of the state’s premier region games. Gadsden City (0-2) will stay home to play Buckhorn.
