Hewitt-Trussville High School's football team outlasted Auburn in a shootout on Friday night, winning 56-42 after the two teams combined for 98 points.
Quarterback Jack Floyd was responsible for seven total touchdowns, three through the air and four on the ground, finishing with 519 yards of total offense.
Hewitt-Trussville built a 42-28 halftime lead as the teams combined for 63 points in the first two quarters. Auburn trimmed the margin to 42-35 with a third-quarter touchdown, but the Huskies answered with 14 points in the fourth to close it out.
Floyd completed 22 of 26 passes for 360 yards and three touchdowns to go with his 159 rushing yards. Jackson Martin was his top target, catching five passes for 165 yards and a touchdown, including a 67-yard connection. DJ Hall added six catches for 69 yards and a score, and Daniel Williams caught three passes for 43 yards and a touchdown to go with 64 rushing yards.
Harrison Malone provided a defensive highlight, returning an interception 32 yards for a touchdown, and Kahlil Braswell picked off two more passes.
Auburn quarterback Cason Myers was efficient in his own right, completing 21 of 28 passes for 293 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 68 yards and two scores, though three interceptions proved costly. Quez Johnson was a dual threat for the Tigers, catching six passes for 116 yards and a touchdown and adding a rushing score of his own. Jeremiah Owens scored twice on the ground for Auburn.
Nathan Fritz was a perfect 8 of 8 on extra points for Hewitt-Trussville.
Hewitt-Trussville improved to 1-0 and hosts Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa next Friday at Hewitt-Trussville Stadium.
Clay-Chalkville traveled to Georgia and took down a strong Creekside team, 29-20.
