Trussville's Merritt Daniel won the 62nd Alabama Girls State Junior Championship tournament last week.
Daniel entered the final round with a four-shot lead, and posted an overall score of two-over par 218 to claim the title.
With the win, Daniel now locks in her spot in the 2025 U.S. Girls Junior Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia, July 14-19, 2025.
Daniel also gets exemption into Alabama Girls State Junior for the remainder of her eligibility, a five-year (2025-2029) exemption into the Alabama Women’s Match Play Championship, a five-year (2025-2029) exemption into the Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship, as well as her spot on team Alabama’s 2025 Southern Junior Cup team.
Daniel will be a freshman at Hewitt-Trussville High School in the fall. She has competed on the varsity golf team for the past two years.
