The high school basketball postseason has begun, with area tournaments going on this week.
On Wednesday, the Clay-Chalkville girls wrapped up the Class 6A, Area 12 tournament title with a 50-29 win over Gardendale. In the contest, Telecia Ransom and Kimora Brewster each scored 14 points to lead the Lady Cougars. Jaeda Hall had seven points.
On the boys side of that area, Pinson Valley knocked off Clay-Chalkville 47-41 in the final. For the Indians, Quay Lynch led the way for the Indians with 14 poitns. Austin Coner had 13 points and eight rebounds. Smoke Thomas posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Clay-Chalkville's girls will host Cullman on Friday in the Class 6A sub-regional round. On Saturday, Pinson Valley's boys will host Jasper and Clay-Chalkville will head to Cullman.
Hewitt-Trussville's boys and girls saw their seasons end Wednesday in the opening round of the Class 7A, Area 6 tournament. Hewitt's girls fell to Vestavia Hills 62-30, while the boys suffered a tough 40-35 loss.
