The Hewitt-Trussville Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team won the Metro South Tournament and went a perfect 19-0 on the season.

Hewitt-Trussville’s Katie Flannery (22) was named MVP of the Metro South Tournament and led the Lady Huskies with 14 points in the championship game.
The eighth-grade girls basketball team at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School put together the first undefeated season in school history on its way to the Metro South Tournament title.
The Lady Huskies finished the season 19-0 and defeated Berry Middle School, 35-25, in the championship game Feb. 1 at Clay-Chalkville Middle School.
Berry led the majority of the contest, taking a 16-10 lead into the half. Hewitt-Trussville trailed by 10 late in the third quarter before finishing the game on a 22-2 run and pulling away for the win. Katie Flannery was named MVP of the tournament and led the Lady Huskies with 14 points in the championship game.
April Hooks scored 13 points in the game and was named to the All-Tournament team, along with Kenleigh Cahalan.
Hewitt-Trussville won its 19 games by an average of 27 points per contest.
Other team members include Mary Alston, Chrissy Dillard, Riley Rudick, Mary Cartee, Trinity Grimsley, D’yona Jones, Breanna Stoddard and Maddie Wallace. The team is coached by Todd Carlile.
