Each year, Serra Toyota provides an opportunity for local high school students to win a brand new Toyota.
This July, the keys to a new Corolla were handed to Dallas Clay, 18, from Clay-Chalkville High School, due to his academic achievement and high performance at school.
During his high school career, Clay was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honor Society and the math team. In addition, he made time to tutor other students in math and volunteer at his church as an audio engineer assistant, while maintaining a 3.75 GPA. In the fall, Clay will be attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham with the intent to study Electrical Engineering.
The annual vehicle giveaway was inspired by Christina Heichelbech, a local high school student with an exceptional academic record who was tragically killed during the devastating tornados in January 2012. Each year since her passing,Christina's family has worked with Serra Toyota to promote this honor.
In order to qualify for the giveaway, students must have been in their senior year of high school, have had good grades and perfect attendance. Serra Toyota had 125 eligible seniors this year, a new record. At the end of the year, all eligible students from six area high schools attended a celebration at Serra Toyota, where 15 are randomly selected and given a key. One lucky individual was holding the key to a new car.
Clay went home with a brand new 2020 Corolla SE free of costs, including taxes and first year tag reimbursement. All maintenance under 25,000 miles will also be covered by the dealership. Each qualifying senior received a gift bag with a T-shirt and $100 Visa gift card.
