The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club named its students of the month for October from Hewitt-Trussville High School (HTHS) and Clay-Chalkville High School (CCHS).
The Don Haisten Student of the Month from HTHS is senior Ashlynn Cartee. Cartee is Key Club president and involved in Girls Service Association, Yearbook, Peer Partners, National Honor Society, tennis team and is an Orientation Assistant. She has served on the 9th, 10th and 11th grade boards and has received an AP scholarship award, as well as a UA presidential scholarship.
Cartee’s selection for Teacher of the Month is Jennifer Coleman, her AP language and composition teacher. Cartee said, “Mrs. Coleman invested in me as a student and a writer, boosting not only my skills but my overall confidence as a student. Each day in class, she made valuable and intentional use of our time, never letting a moment go to waste. I left her class feeling assured in my abilities as a student, and I continued applying her lessons in other aspects of my life and studies.”
The Student of the Month from CCHS is senior Dayon Bryant. Bryant plays basketball and has formerly been a part of the football, team baseball team and band. In HOSA, he worked on a judicial campaign and voter registration, and he is a motivational speaker at Clay Elementary. He is a member of the Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. In his spare time, he likes to help other kids who want to play basketball and interns at ATI Physical Therapy.
His Teacher of the Month is Cheryl Battle, his Spanish teacher. “She has helped me in many ways,” Bryant said, “and not just in Spanish class. She has taught me life lessons that I can take with me throughout my life.”
This program is sponsored by Jim ‘n Nick’s Bar-B-Q, which gave each honoree a gift card.
The Club meets at the Trussville Civic Center located 5381 Trussville-Clay Road in Trussville at 7 a.m. on Wednesday mornings.
