Preston Healy competes on Charlie in the Champs East regional competition’s show jumping division.
In July, Trussville resident Preston Healy went to the United States Pony Club national competition called Champs East 2019, where he competed with his horse Charlie in the show jumping discipline against 155 competitors.
Overall, there were 475 competitors across the show’s seven disciplines, traveling from 26 regions located in the eastern United States. Preston is a member of the local Cahaba Pony Club and qualified at the South Region Pony Club's Show Jumping Rally in May to go to Champs East.
Preston and Charlie brought home several wins, including:
- Top rider and horse in the standard show jumping divisions, winning the “All Clear” blue ribbon for riding all five rounds with no time or jumping faults.
- First place in the equitation class out of 51 riders.
- A certificate of excellence for having perfect turnout inspections.
- First place overall team medal with a low score of 25.67 in the standard senior introductory division.
- Fifth place in the horse management team award.
