First Baptist Church Trussville celebrated 20 years of ministry under Pastor Buddy Champion during services Aug. 30.
During Champion’s tenure, the church has recorded 1,709 baptisms, 4,468 new members and 1,589 professions of faith across 1,043 Sunday services, the church said.
According to a post from the church’s Seasoned Adult Ministry, the 9:15 a.m. service included video messages from former FBCT Minister of Music Joe Estes, Shades Mountain Baptist Pastor Charles Carter and Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
The 10:45 a.m. service included messages from Blake Kersey of First Baptist Church Decatur, Buddy Gray, pastor emeritus of Hunter Street Baptist Church, and Danny Wood, pastor emeritus of Shades Mountain Baptist Church.
Champion and his wife, Lynn, were presented with an opportunity for a four-week, all-expenses-paid trip, along with a year’s supply of Diet Mountain Dew and Snickers bars and a soft-serve ice cream machine. For Champion Farms, he received a personalized “CF” branding iron and plans for an entrance sign. Lynn Champion was presented with flowers.
Three of the couple’s four daughters attended the celebration.
Champion has described the church’s vision as three commitments: commit to Him, know His ways and do His work. According to the church, he is known for adding an informal fourth line of his own: “Because it’s all about Him.”
