Trussville’s Entertainment District.
The Trussville Entertainment District, at 119 Beech St., will see increased enforcement of its rules following what city officials described as an ongoing pattern of violations reported by business owners, staff and patrons.
Mayor Ben Short announced the enforcement push in a June 1 message to the public, citing repeated complaints about smoking in prohibited areas, people throwing footballs and playing games that create safety hazards, outside food and beverages being brought into the district, misuse of public furniture and tables, and disrespectful behavior toward staff and security personnel.
“I would much rather allocate police resources elsewhere in our community,” Short said. “However, due to the ongoing nature of these issues, coupled with repeated complaints from staff, businesses, and citizens, we are at a point where we must address them more directly.”
District visitors are reminded to follow posted rules, respect on-site staff and security personnel, and help maintain a safe and clean environment. Anyone who fails to comply with district rules or directions from staff or security may be removed from the district and banned from returning.
Short also called on parents specifically to help enforce expectations, noting that while families are welcome downtown, the district is not a playground.
“We appreciate those of you who already follow the rules and help make downtown Trussville a great place to gather,” Short said. “Your cooperation matters and helps us continue offering events, live music, and an experience we can all be proud of.”
