Amanda Flynn and Candi Adair launched their online boutique, Two Boro Girls, in March.
Flynn grew up in Trussville and Adair moved to the city after college, though she now lives in Mountain Brook. Adair’s son, Connor, was the quarterback for the Hewitt-Trussville football team in 2016 and is now playing college football at Memphis.
During a late-night phone conversation, the idea came to the two Scottsboro natives to start a business together that involved clothing and fashion. They began thinking of name ideas.
“That night we were trying to come up with a name,” Flynn said. “We wanted something catchy that means something to us. When I write out Scottsboro, I always abbreviate it S-boro, so that’s where our name came from.”
Since launching in March, Flynn said the business has exploded and amassed afollowing of more than 14,000 from both Scottsboro and Trussville.
Strictly selling on social media, Flynn and Adair post items that customers can comment on in order to purchase. They send an invoice and ship the items from their homes.
Flynn, who began making custom shirts more than five years ago, said Two Boro Girls are known for their city designs.
“I had an idea to do shirts for specific cities,” she said. “I penned out the designs, and we have a lady that puts ink to it and brings it to life. As of now, we have designs for Birmingham, Gadsden, Huntsville, Gulf Shores, Fairhope, Scottsboro and Springville. It really grew, and it was something I didn’t want to give up.”
Because they don’t have the overhead of a brick and mortar store, Flynn said they are able to save their customers money. Some of the brands they sell include Listicle, Antelope and Not Rated.
“We want to offer name brand clothes at affordable prices for everyone,” Flynn said. “We strive to keep our prices reasonable.”
To find the latest fashion trends, Flynn and Adair make frequent trips to markets in Atlanta. Flynn said some of the trends for fall include camouflage, velvet, colored jeans and dressy flats.
Flynn continues to work full-time at a Trussville dentist office, while the boutique is a full-time job for Adair.
“Candi does it during the day, and I take over at 5 p.m. each night. On Fridays through Sundays, it’s me. We each have our own area of the business we focus on. Hers is more invoicing and ordering, and mine is bookkeeping and custom shirts,” Flynn said.
With the growth they’ve experienced, Flynn and Adair have had to enlist another set of hands with their first employee, Paige Leathers.
As for future plans, the women hope to continue growing their business.
“It’s something we enjoy and as long as there is a demand for it, we will continue doing it,” Flynn said.
