Rose Mason is the owner of Odelia's Home.
Q: Introduce yourself and your business.
A: Hello, my name is Rose Mason, and I own Odelia's Home. It is an online antique and vintage store.
Q: What inspired you to start your business?
A: The name Odelia's Home comes from my great-grandmother, Odelia. We called her Grandma Deley. She was an amazing collector. When you walked into her home, it felt cozy and comfortable and it had such a history with all of her items. I want to create that same feeling in my home and everybody else's home. Adding antiques and vintage decor to your home, not only adds character and something unique, it creates such a cozy feeling and it's sustainable. So, I really hope to continue her collection, her legacy and honor her in this business.
Q: What is one fun fact people might be surprised to know about you?
A: So, if you know me well, you know that I'm a nurse. Nursing is my first job, it's my first passion, and I am still a nurse while I do this business. You might not know I was planning on going back to graduate school, and then I felt the Lord telling me that that was not the path for me. So, I decided to do something that I was passionate about and have been passionate about since a young age. And, that was definitely the Lord's will of my life, and I believe my calling and that is Odelia's Home. And I'm so thankful that my husband encouraged me to take the step and my family encouraged me to take the step, and here we are a little over a year into it and I am so thankful for the community that has supported me and all my new friends that I've made through Odelia's Home and everyone who has supported me. I'm so thankful for that. But, nursing is and was my first degree and job, and I do still love it.
Q: What do you love most about the people who walk through your doors?
A: The thing that I love the most about all of my customers, whether they're here in Trussville or people I've met across the country, are we bond through antiques. The antiquing community is strong, and I have made so many friends. I love to see where these items end up and where their stories will continue.
It has been great seeing people's nurseries and their first homes being decorated with my items and it just brings me such joy and I feel so, so full when I see all these beautiful items in their new forever home. I have loved making new friends. I have loved meeting my customers and building those relationships with them. So many people that I would have never met, I have met through antiques and it has truly been incredible. But, I definitely love—my favorite thing—is seeing where these items end up and seeing how excited my customers are to complete their space with their new item.
Q: What’s a moment or experience with a client that made you feel connected to Trussville?
A: Having been raised in Trussville, and then staying in Trussville and starting this business in Trussville, has been incredible. So, many long term friends and relationships have been continued and then new friends and relationships have been made. And, whenever I'm out and about and someone sees me and they tell me that they are proud of me or congratulate me or ask me about my business, it means so much to me.
It is so life-giving, and I have been so thankful to be able to stay in this community and be encouraged by everybody. Just these small moments, these small encounters, really mean so much to me, so thank you to everybody who has supported me in this community. It really means so much to me. You will never know.
Q: How has this community supported your business, and how do you give back?
A: I have been so supported since the beginning of Odelia's Home with the people in this community. People sharing word-of-mouth. I have so many customers say my friend that I know well sent me over to you and I'm so excited, and that is— I could not—I would not—be here without that, without this community and their support. So, thank you for that.
I entered love. I love to help bring your home vision to life. It brings me so much joy. I've loved styling people's homes and coming up with the perfect setting for their new office space or nursery or living room. It's been great. So, I am looking forward to continuing that and helping all my Trussville friends have what they want in their home and bring that vision to life.
Q: What keeps you motivated and excited to keep doing what you do every day?
A: I definitely stay motivated and excited to do what I'm doing because of all the relationships that I have built. I did not expect this when I first started this business; to have so many new friends in the antique community. It can be hard running a business mostly by yourself. But, my new friends and this community around me has been so supportive and encouraging and I wake up every day so grateful for all the new relationships that I've made. I definitely could not keep going without them. So, thank you all for supporting me for encouraging me. It really means more than you will ever know. Antiques and vintage items are super exciting, but I couldn't do without my friends.
Q: Anything else you would like the community to know?
A: I just want to say thank you so much to my family who has been constant support there for me, has never doubted me, has always encouraged me. So, thank you so much. I would not be where I am without them. So, thank you to my family for being here for me and telling me I can do it because I would not have done it without your support.
