SOFTBALL
Hewitt-Trussville
The Hewitt-Trussville High School softball team began its week with a wild 22-14 win over Vestavia Hills on Monday. Tate Moseley hit a pair of grand slams in the offensive explosion to finish with a game-high eight RBIs. Anyce Harvey hit two homers and Abi Inman, Crystal Maze and Hannah Borden added bombs as well.
The Huskies were unable to rebound the following night and fell to Springville, 11-3. Springville scored five runs in the first inning and never trailed. Following her two-homer night on Monday, Harvey drove in a pair of runs on Tuesday.
Pinson Valley
The Pinson Valley softball team fell to Mortimer Jordan, 3-1, on Monday. The Lady Indians picked up just two hits in the contest, but sophomore Ka’Mya Hampton pitched three scoreless innings in relief.
The Indians fell to Gardendale, 11-1, on Tuesday in their area opener. Jordan Walker’s RBI single in the second inning was the only run Pinson Valley could muster on the evening.
On Thursday, the Indians dropped its third game of the week, falling to Corner, 5-4. Pinson Valley trailed 5-0 but rallied to score four runs in the final inning. Charlotte Phillips hit a three-run home run in the inning and finished the night 3-for-4 with a double as well. Graci Graves and Maddie Pliscofsky each picked up two hits.
Clay-Chalkville
Despite having five players with multi-hit games, the Clay-Chalkville softball team fell to area opponent Gardendale, 8-3, on Wednesday. The Cougars picked up an area win over Center Point on Thursday, routing the Eagles, 12-1. Julia Petty hurled a no-hitter, allowing an unearned run to go along with 15 strikeouts in five innings. Alyssa Butts drove in three runs for Clay-Chalkville.
BASEBALL
Hewitt-Trussville
The Hewitt-Trussville High School baseball team picked up a 5-2 win over Briarwood on Monday night. Ed Johnson got the win on the mound, striking out five hitters in three innings of work. Carson Skipper had a double, RBI and three runs scored. Tyler Mauldin ripped two hits and drove in two runs. Michael Fowler picked up a pair of hits as well.
The Huskies routed Southside-Gadsden, 11-0, on Thursday. Skipper was a force on the mound and at the plate. He allowed just one hit and struck out 13 batters in five innings of work, while registering three hits (two triples) and three RBIs. Mauldin and Fowler drove in a pair of runs each.
Hewitt-Trussville won two more games on Saturday. In an 11-2 win over Opelika, Fowler struck out 12 batters and allowed just one hit in five innings on the mound. Kerrigan Edmonson tallied three RBIs on the day, while Fowler, Zach Defnall and Mauldin drove in two each. Jacob Bishop registered two hits. The Huskies beat Northridge, 10-5, to wrap up the week. Walker Sahagun picked up the win on the mound, with Johnson grabbing the save. Defnall had another big game, going 3-for-4 with two doubles. Skipper had a triple and drove in three runs. Creed Parker went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBIs. Mauldin added two hits.
Pinson Valley
The Pinson Valley baseball team won a wild game against Shades Valley on Wednesday, hanging on for a 14-13 victory. Thursday night’s game against Corner was a much lower-scoring affair, but the Indians fell 4-1.
Clay-Chalkville
The Clay-Chalkville baseball team picked up a 3-0 win over Southeastern on Wednesday, as Luke Moore hurled a complete game shutout in his first career varsity start. He allowed just four hits and struck out five, while also doubling home a pair of runs.
The Cougars fell to a strong Homewood team, 13-3, on Thursday. On Saturday, Clay-Chalkville picked up a split, beating Moody 4-3 and falling 7-6 to Pell City.
SOCCER
Pinson Valley
The Pinson Valley boys soccer team grabbed a dominating 10-0 win over Shelby County on Monday. The Indians picked up another win on Tuesday, defeating Bessemer City, 5-2. Pinson fell to Mountain Brook, 4-0, on Thursday.
Clay-Chalkville
The Clay-Chalkville boys soccer team edged out Pell City, 2-1, on Monday. The girls team fell, 7-0, to Pell City. On Thursday, the Cougars boys defeated Springville, 4-1.
Hewitt-Trussville
The Hewitt-Trussville girls soccer team lost a tight 1-0 contest to Huntsville on Monday night. The Huskies failed to score for the second night in a row on Tuesday, coming away with a 0-0 tie with Mountain Brook.
The boys team rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Huntsville, 4-3, in overtime on Wednesday. The Huskies trailed 3-1, but managed to tie the game and Gabe Kirk’s goal with 15 seconds to play in the second overtime gave Hewitt the win.
On Thursday, Hewitt’s girls traveled to Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa and came away with a dominating 10-0 victory.
